Au travers des tissus

Au travers des tissus is a duo performance with Philomène Amougou, in collaboration with costume designer Kelsey Dykes. The project looks at the use of the term "hysterical" in the 20th century freudian era, when books were written in La Salle Pétrière, gathering the specific movements of a hysterical subject, recording and associating them with specific pathologies or mental illness.

We gathered those given physical paterns while making them our own, reinterpreting a story to free the body from the weight of these interpretations, both with organic movements and the costume's design allowing an entire freedom of speech.

Kelsey Dykes' collection was created to conter these Freudian interpretations of hysterical patients and their body posture by designing clothes allowing an entire freedom of movement. Allowing the performers to embrace, destroy and make theirs the movements based on those clinical clichés.

From this, the performers learned and integrated the XXth century catalogues and transcended them into a personal understanding of such body language.

It resulted in a fragmented, sensorial and somehow organic whole, that was deepened by the creation of a dismantled yet harmonious dynamic in both the soundtrack and the montage sentence.
